Happy Sunday my bookworms!
Where have I been you wonder? As it turns out, I grossly underestimated the amount of free time I was going to have this past week. You all know how it gets around the holidays. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This Thanksgiving was extra special because my little brother was home for the first time in a year after a deployment to South Korea. We spent his time here at my parent’s house hanging out by the fire, seeing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, having an air soft war (which is never complete without my father shooting people with his BB gun), and of course lots of eating. A good time was had by all!
*Weekly Wrap-Up is a weekly post where I feature what posts were published on the blog for the past week, any bookish/blog happenings, noteworthy posts around the bookish blogosphere, what I recently finished reading, what I am currently reading, and what I will be reading next.
This week on the blog:
Monday

Bookish/Blog happenings:
My giveaway (U.S. only) for the signed copy of The Summer That Melted Everything will run until Wednesday 11/30 at 11:59pm EST. If you haven’t already, you can click the link above to enter!
Recently finished reading:
» The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
This was SO close to being a 5-star read for me. I had to dock it a star for the dreaded love triangle ((rolls eyes)). Other than that, I LOVED this book.
» The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman Amazon • Goodreads
After reading this book, I am convinced that Neil Gaiman has “Mommy and Daddy issues.”
Currently reading:
» The Girls by Emma Cline
Good solid start for The Girls. I have high hopes for this one.
On deck:
» Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
I’m super excited to start this one. It has been one of my most anticipated books for 2016.
How was your week?
What are you currently reading?
What will you read next?
Have a wonderful week, and happy reading
You week sounds lovely ❤ I finished two books today: The Farther He Runs and Fall Far From The Tree and I'm still working on what I'll be reading next, haha! The week itself was alright =)

It really was. It was so nice to just hang out with family. Typically, my days and weekends consist of running my kids to school, sports, social engagements, etc. so it was a nice change of pace to just be lazy for once lol

Aww seeing your brother must’ve been a happy emotional time, I’m happy to know you had a great Thanksgiving! I look forward to reading your reviews for The Girls and ESPECIALLY for Small Great Things since it’s on my TBR and has great reviews on Goodreads.
Good luck to the winner for your giveaway! and I hope you have a great positive week ahead =)

Thanks so much Gretchen! It was wonderful having my little brother back home. I worried about him while he was over seas. I know South Korea isn’t exactly a hot spot for violence against U.S. Troops right now, but it still made me nervous. He is after all my baby brother. Thankfully he will be in the U.S. until his next deployment in 2018! At least that’s what he’s told.
The Girls is very dark and sexual. I don’t know what it is about cults, but I’m fascinated by them.

I think deployment is scary no matter where they go. I have one brother and I would be so scared. He actually wanted to be apart of the army and I cried with just the thought of him leaving. I can only imagine your heart.
Cults are a cool thing to know about!!

What good taste you have. Honestly, every single book on your list this week is one I’ve been interested in reading. LOL about Gaiman have mommy and daddy issues. Heilig’s book is one I’ve been really wondering about. Too bad about the love triangle (ugh). What things did you love about it?

The Girl from Everywhere is definitely still an awesome read. I loved the concept of time traveling through maps. I loved the pirate-ish feel. I loved the diverse cast of characters. There was a Father-Daughter struggle throughout the book, and I enjoyed how that all panned out.
I really enjoyed it!

I’m curious about your opinion on The Girls! It was like so fascinating and weird at the same time XD

It is fascinating! I almost feel like I shouldn’t be enjoying this book? Does my fascination with cults make me a freak? So far this book is very unsettling and weirdly sexual. I almost feel like I’m in a trance while reading it 😳

Hahaha I had the same feeling, but I couldn’t stop reading. Another great one about cults is The Singing Bone!

Sounds like you had a lovely holiday Amanda, seeing your brother must’ve been a real treat 🙂 I’m looking forward to your reviews for The Girls & Small Great Things. The cover I’ve been waiting for was finally made available on Bookdepository for Small Great Things & I’m ordering it tonight. Neil Gaiman may have daddy issues? I can see it LOL!

Ooooo I need to check out the new cover for Small Great Things! I’m not a fan of this one.
Read The Ocean at the End of the Lane and you’ll see what I’m talking about lol

lol neither was I, it took a ton of restraint not to just give in & buy the U.S. Edition. I waited for the U.K. Hardcover to be released. I have The Ocean at the End Of The Lane on Audible app, waiting for the mood to hit lol.

I completely agree with your assessment of Gaiman. It’s so true. Plus, he puts a lot of time and effort into sibling relationships in his various works. That said, I still love them all. There is just an edge of predictability. 🙂
Sorry about the love triangle in The Girl from Everywhere! I almost warned you, but spoilers. 😉 I’m glad it was a 4 star read for you, however! I look forward to reading your full review.

I just wish the love triangle would have been left out. I don’t particularly think it added anything to the plot. I did love the book (and Kash of course) and can’t wait for the next book!

I agree- the love triangle felt a bit like a plot device, but I think it gave the author a unique chance to showcase how isolated Nix’s life was. Cliche, but effective in my eyes.

I also didn’t have as much time to read during the holiday weekend as I’d liked. But I had fun and it looks like you did too! I’m glad you got to see your brother 🙂 And also got to see Fantastic Beasts! I saw it too and thought it was great. Not quite as good as some of the later Potter films, but I think the series will get better and more interesting as it progresses.
Looks like you had a good reading week! The Girl From Everywhere is all over Twitter and the blogosphere because the author is so wonderful and outspoken and smart. The sequel should be out next year. 😀
