As some of you may remember, I made it one of my 2017 goals to read & promote more diverse children’s books. Today I bring you mini-reviews for a few diverse middle grade books.
For my review for George by Alex Gino, I decided I was going to do something a little different. I am going to share with you all why I think you should read this book with your kids… I would like to point out that I said to read this book WITH your kids and not simply letting your kids read it themselves….
When my book club was throwing around book ideas for our October book of the month, A Monster Calls immediately came to mind. I wanted something “Halloween-ish but not scary” and on the shorter side because October tends to be a busy month for most people. A Monster Calls was definitely outside of most of the groups comfort zones, but it ended up being a big hit.
Does anyone have a time machine laying around? If so, I would like to borrow it to travel back into time and make my 11 year old self read this book.
