Hello bookworms!
Today I am here to wrap-up what I read for the #IronTomeAThon that took place in the month of July…
To read more about the #IronTomeAThon, you can read Aimal’s announcement post here ⇒ ANNOUNCING THE #IRONTOMEATHON: AN ADULT FANTASY READATHON
If you are curious to see what my TBR was for this read-a-thon, you can see it here ⇒ My Iron Tome-A-Thon TBR #IronTomeAThon
This read-a-thon was inspired by the popular book & TV series, The Game of Thrones. The reading prompts were all GoT based, and you were able to pick which house you are reading for. Since I hadn’t read Game of Thrones nor seen the TV series, I had to take an online quiz to see which house I should be reading for. After 3 different online quizzes, 2 out of the 3 quizzes placed me in House Stark, so that’s what I went with.
House Stark
Now that I am 60% through A Game of Thrones, I would probably have chosen House Stark for myself, so kudos to those online quizzes on their accuracy 🙂
The Challenges:
1.) Castle Black: read the group book
I did not read the group book, The Poppy War (The Poppy War #1), as I read it in February. You can read my review here ⇒ Mini Book Review: The Poppy War (The Poppy War #1) by R.F. Kuang
2.) Winterfell: read a book set (partially or fully) in a cold environment…
I’m going to go ahead and give this one to myself because I got about 35% through A Game of Thrones. To be fair, this tome is 800+ pages long. Give me a break! I am currently about 60% through and am LOVING every minute of it.
3.) King’s Landing: read a book about or involving royalty, politics, or government…
I was planning on reading The City of Brass for this challenge, but unfortunately I did not get to it.
4.) Sunspear: read a book inspired by a non-Western setting or a book by an author of color or an indigenous author…
I read Trial of Lightning for this prompt. The author, Rebecca Roanhorse, is an indigenous author.
5.) Oldtown: read a book about or involving an institution of knowledge or training…
I read Red Sister for this challenge prompt. I adored the convent (school/training institution) setting in this book!
6.) Valyria: read a book about or involving dragons…
For this challenge, I chose to read A Natural History of Dragons. I really enjoyed this memoir style novel with a Victorian era setting about a young woman who aspires to study dragons. I will definitely be continuing on with this series.
7.) Asshai: read a dark/grimdark fantasy or urban fantasy…
I read American Gods for this prompt, which also checked off one of my 2019 goals to finally read it! I listened to it via audiobook, which was narrated by a full cast, and feel this is the perfect way to experience this book.
Books I Read for #IronTomeAThon:
» A Game of Thrones (A Song of Fire and Ice #1) by George R.R. Martin
*30% read by the end of July*
» Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse
» Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor #1) by Mark Lawrence
» A Natural History of Dragons (The Memoirs of Lady Trent #1) by Marie Brennan
» American Gods (American Gods #1) by Neil Gaiman
I am pretty proud of myself for reading 4.30 books for this read-a-thon! I read a total of 2,025-ish pages. Huge thanks to Aimal @Bookshelves & Paperbacks for hosting this read-a-thon. I hope to participate again next year 🙂
Did you participate in #IronTomeAThon?
If so, which books did you read?
Comment below & let me know 🙂
LoL! I would give you the Winterfell category. A Game of Thrones is a long book so by reading that much you basically completed a book I bet.

Technically, you did the King’s Landing challenge too because A Game of Thrones definitely fits and you could totally double up on the prompts. 😂 You did really well, congrats! And thank you for participating, I was so glad to have you on board.
