Happy Sunday bookworms!
Whew! I’ve had a very crazy week and weekend. This evening has been the first time I’ve had the chance to sit down since Wednesday. I can’t complain though, because some wonderful things have been happened to me this week 🙂
Let’s see what I had going on this week…
*Bookish Weekly Wrap-Up is a weekly post where I feature what posts were published on the blog for the past week, any bookish/blog happenings, what I recently finished reading, what I am currently reading, what I will be reading next, noteworthy posts around the bookish blogosphere, and any interesting bookish articles I came across.
So many great things going on in my personal life this week! For starters, I was contacted by my hometown’s community newsletter/magazine about writing a short article about literacy for their March issue. I decided to talk about ways to get your kids to read more, a modification of one of my blog posts ⇒ Kids’ Corner: How to Get Your Kids to Read More. The magazine was published this week.
I was also contacted by a local Girl Scout Troop in my community to come and talk to the girls about Little Free Libraries & how to maintain one. These girls are going to be in charge of 4 LFLs going up around our community this spring.
My husband and I attended our 2nd Adult Prom. We have so much fun at this event every year 🙂
Hands down my favorite part of this weekend would have to be that my little brother is home from Afghanistan!!! Some may remember that he was deployed back in November. He was supposed to be there until September, but was among the troops sent home early. He knew for 2 weeks, but didn’t tell anyone. He got back to the states on Wednesday, and called me to tell me the news. He flew into Ohio for a night to surprise my parents on Friday night. I had 1.5 days notice to put together a family party & pull off the surprise. It was a total tear- jerker, and of course I got it all on video. You know those videos of soldiers coming back from deployment and surprising their family members that you ugly cry while watching? We now have our very own 🙂 To say we all are relieved that he is home safe is an understatement.
All this plus a few working days, birthday parties, sporting practices & games, confirmation prep with my nephew, and a viewing. I was so busy these past few days that I barely read at all, and I definitely didn’t get the chance to even open my computer to blog.

Kids’ Corner: Diverse Children’s Picture Books (February 2019)
Recently Finished Reading:
» Circe by Madeline Miller
Worth all the hype! I just love how Madeline Miller spins her Greek mythology retellings. I cannot wait to see which myth/mythological figure she tackles next.
» When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir by Patrisse Khan-Cullors & Asha Bendele
#BlackHistoryMonth
A memoir of Patrisse Khan-Cullors, activist & #BlackLivesMatter movement co-founder. This memoir was heartbreaking and eye-opening. I wanted more about the founding & logistics of the BLM movement.
Currently Reading:
» Moloka’i (Moloka’i #1) by Alan Brennert

» The Serpent’s Secret (Kiranmala and the Kingdom Beyond #1) by Sayantani Dasgupta

What Am I Reading Next?:
» Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg
It’s first the story of two women in the 1980s, of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale she tells is also of two women—of the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth, who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder.
This is going to be a buddy read with my good friend Jackie @Death by Tsundoku.

Sounds like a great week. Glad that you bro is back. I can imagine the reception for him by your fam. Must have been very emotional.
Very cool to be featured in the magazine too.

Thank you so much! It was definitely the best part of the year so far. My parents are so relieved… they had been having a really hard time with it.
