TTT2.jpg

Hello fellow bookworms!  It’s Tuesday and that means it is time for another Top Ten Tuesday post!

What is TTT? TTT is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.  Check out their blog for more info and to see upcoming themes.

This week’s theme is…

March 28: Top Ten Authors I’m Dying To Meet / Ten Authors I Can’t Believe I’ve Met  (some other “meeting authors” type spin you want to do)

Before 2016, I never attended an author/book event.  I never really knew it was a thing.  Now that I’ve attended a few events and book festivals, I’m hooked.  Over the past year, I’ve been very fortunate to meet some wonderful authors at events that were held near where I live.

Curious to see who I have met over the past year?  Keep reading to find out 🙂

    1. I definitely don’t take it for granted. I can’t believe some of the authors who have come near me. The farthest I’ve had to drive was 1.5 hours to see Schwab. I am going a bit further for a book festival in Kentucky. It will be a 4 hour drive, but totally worth it to see R.L. Stine, Ann Patchett, and many more.

  1. WOW! This is awesome! I had no idea you had met so many authors; I read about these experiences, obviously, but I’ve never really paid attention and counted. I only went to my first author event a few weeks ago to see Brittany Cavallaro. It was great, and I want more! Too bad there aren’t that many in my area… I need to find people to caravan outside of the city with me, for sure.

Hm. Who I want to meet? From your list, V.E. Schwab, Neil Gaiman, and JK Rowling, for sure. Also, Brandon Sanderson, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Alexie Sherman, NK Jemisin, and Rainbow Rowell. You know, just to name a few… 🙂

    1. I’m definitely one lucky gal, that’s for sure! Yes, sometimes travel is required. Luckily, the farthest I had to drive for any of these events was an hour and 15 minutes. I will be traveling 4 hours for the SOKY book festival in a few weeks. Not too hateful. My friend and I are driving down Friday evening, getting a hotel for the night, then hitting the festival on Saturday and driving back after.
I’ve heard Rainbow Rowell is the loveliest person ever ❤️

  2. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again, you my friend taking awesome photos! Whereas I don’t know how or where to look when I meet authors at book events lol. I’ve enjoyed seeing your author event posts so much, they all seem so down to earth 🙌🏼 & Amanda the day you hear Uncle Gaiman is coming to town, I’m gonna need a lift 🤣🤣🤣

    1. If Gaiman comes near me, you can bet I’ll put you up for a few days 😉 I mean, who wouldn’t want to vacation in Ohio?! 😂 Haha thanks, I credit the awesome pictures to the fact that I tell my book event buddy to make sure and take a bunch at once, so usually there is at least one good one 😉

  3. Very cool!

I think J.K. Rowling would just be the best. She seems very down to earth for someone who is so fabulously famous and wealthy.

The only favorite author I’ve had the chance to meet is Jess Walter. He was so funny and gracious and humble. I treasure the book he signed (Beautiful Ruins, one of my all time favorites.)

    1. I think Nora Roberts is definitely a brilliant author. I like some of her books better than others, but I can’t believe she continues to keep consistently grinding out so many good books. And that isn’t even going into the books she writes under her pen name. It’s insane.

  6. I love that you met Jenny Lawson!! I’m so jealous!! I have met Nora Roberts a couple of times I live near her bookstore Turn the Page in Boonsboro and go to signing events there. She is real and is unbelievably nice, sweet and remembers people who come back!! Congrats on meeting some fantastic authors!!!

    1. So you can confirm that Nora Roberts is indeed human?! Man I was so convinced she was a robot too…

Jenny Lawson is freaking awesome. She chatted with me for a long time before my friend yelled at me for “hogging Jenny Lawson” 😂

      1. Hahha I would totally hog her too!! Yes she is human matter of fact I ran into her in a store before the first time met her and she was just chatting up everyone like she was abnormal human being and not some monumental author that published a bagillion books 📚. Meanwhile I was fangirling and my mom was like just say hi…. and I was all like “DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHO THAT IS???” needless to say that’s the last author signing she went to with me 😂😂

  7. Love this! I would definitely want to meet these authors as well… Although I guess I picked the wrong country to settle down in for that. xD There aren’t many bookish events around in Argentina (especially if you what international authors/English books), but I’m keeping my fingers crossed I will be able to visit one some day. And I’ll keep my fingers crossed you will be able to visit the authors you want to meet! 🙂

    1. It breaks my heart to see so many of my international blogger friends miss out on meeting the authors they love. I guess it’s one of those things where authors are just people too and cannot possibly visit every country… they are not made of money either, but still. I definitely don’t take my access to author events for granted.

      1. Yeah that is completely true. I guess it’s partly my own fault for not reading more Spanish books since I have a better chance of getting to meet Latin American authors in Argentina, but I almost always end up with English books because it’s easier. xD At least I can pretend I’m at those events a little through posts like yours. 🙂

  10. I’m sooo happy you had the chance of meeting so many cool authors, dear Amanda! I have met a few academic Brazilian authors, but none of the ones I really care about. But I didn’t gave up on it, someday it will happen! =D
