I had a super productive week on the blog (sick of me yet?) AND a killer reading week, so I have no complaints. Oh yeah, did I mention that I attended an author event this weekend? Who you ask?

» I attended the book tour for A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. I am still sitting here in disbelief that I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite authors… I am well aware how fortunate I am, so I do not take it for granted. I am not going to say much more about my experience for now, but you can expect a post about it soon 🙂

Recently finished reading:
» Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
I know this is often everyone’s favorite Ann Patchett novel, but it was just ok for me. I actually enjoyed State of Wonder more. That being said there were elements that I really liked about this book: the focus on music, the blurring of lines between captives and captors, and the intense ending. I would have liked the pacing to have been a little more steady throughout the book versus the snails pacing for 95% of the book, then the big rush to the finish for the last 5%. That ending though! Patchett foreshadowed throughout the novel, and I was anticipating a crazy finish, but not to that extent.

» A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
This book. I thought A Darker Shade of Magic was great, but this book knocked my socks off. If I am being completely honest, reading these books gave me similar feelings that I had as a child reading Harry Potter. I know once I finish this series, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
» Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman. Why are you so damn brilliant? I don’t think he could do any wrong in my eyes. The man writes pure gold. If you asked me which of his books has been my favorite, I really couldn’t tell you as I’ve loved them all. Anyone else think we should have a Gaiman/Schwab collaboration?

I have read so many glowing reviews and comments about Neil Gaiman and have never read him! Maybe I should remedy that this year?? If you had to pick 1 you’d recommend a newbie start with what would you suggest? The author event looks so fun, there’s nothing better than meeting a favorite author in person

I’m jealous! I had a chance to see Victoria Schwab when she was in Nashville but couldn’t make it. Was she interesting? I haven’t read the series yet, but am reading This Savage Song right now. She has an interesting voice!

Lovely photo Amanda! so glad you had a blast! I’m really itchin to start reading AGOS any day now smh, keep hearing it’s even better than ADSOM. Question…lol did you read Neverwhere in physical or audiobook format? I have the audiobook but I’m beginning my Uncle Gaiman collection & was wondering if this was a winner. I see you gave it ALL the love & I trust your opinion my friend 😉
P.S. I’m al for a Gaiman/Schwab collabo! *hands in the air* haha!

You HAVE to read Neverwhere! I listened to it via audiobook, but I would totally read it in print form. I am going to ask for Neverwhere for my upcoming birthday 🙂

I am still so jealous that you me V.E Schwab but I’m happy for you too! Glad you loved Neverwhere, I know I’ve said it before buts it’s my favourite Gaiman!

Hahaha thank you my friend! You were so totally right, Neverwhere was AMAZING! If I am being 100% honest, I would place it just ahead of The Ocean at the End of the Lane and Stardust, but not by much.

I think Neverwhere has all of his trademark whimsy but seems to be just slightly more edgy.

What an excellent week. I love meeting favourite authors – I went to a Gaiman reading and he was so good! I could have asked him ‘why are you so damn good?’ lol
We both need to woman up and read American Gods – tell me when you’re picking it up and perhaps I’ll jump in at the same time.

Neil Gaiman is definitely one of my top authors to meet on my “author bucket list.” I listen to all of his books via audiobook, so I would die to hear him read one of his books in person!
Ahhhhhh American Gods is sooooo intimidating! Plus I’ve heard many Gaiman die hard fans NOT care for it, which makes me so very nervous… I definitely want to get to it this year though. I will let you know when I muster up the courage lol
