Happy Sunday bookworms!

I cannot believe that Christmas is only a week away!  I woke up this morning in a panic because I hadn’t realized how quickly Christmas crept up on me this year.  I remembered this morning that I had yet to put anything together for my kids’ teachers, neighbors, or any miscellaneous people.. so I’ve been running around doing that today.  For my kids’ teachers, I made these cute little “movie night” kits that included candy, peanuts, cocoa mix, microwave popcorn, and a gift card to purchase a movie.

» Small Great Things by Jodi Picul

I am really looking forward to reviewing this book.  After reading The Underground Railroad and learning more about the history of racism and slavery, it was great to read a book that dealt with present day racism. This book gave me a lot to think about.

» The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood

This ended being such a sweet read.  The cover looks like this is a middle grade read, but it is actually an adult book.  It gave me similar feels as A Man Called Ove, so if you read and enjoyed that book, you’d probably enjoy this one too.

» The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events #1) by Lemony Snicket

This is more like 3.5 stars.  I actually think my issues with this book have more to do with the audiobook version I listened to versus the book itself.  I may have enjoyed this more in print form.  I may try re-reading this with my son to see.

Currently reading:

» And I Darken by Kiersten White

So far I am really enjoying this book.  I can’t help but love Lada.  Sure, she can be a bitch sometimes, particularly to her little brother, but I admire her strength. Other than The Red Tent, this is one of the only books that I’ve read that included a woman’s menstruation, which is refreshing.

» George by Alex Gino

I adore this book so far!  This is such a wonderful book that can be used as a tool for educating kids.  I will be re-reading this one with my own son.
