Weekly Wrap-Up: 12/5 – 12/11/16

Happy Sunday bookworms!

I am bound and determined to get this post up BEFORE Sunday evening for once… Typically it goes up so late on Sunday evening, so late that often it is almost Monday by the time I actually get it posted.  Sundays are typically filled with one of my son’s sporting events.  Now that football is over, wrestling is in full swing.  Not sure if anyone is familiar with how wrestling meets work, but basically you sit around for 5 hours to watch your kid wrestle 3 matches for a total of 10 minutes tops.  As you can imagine, this eats up a lot of my time on a Sunday.  This weekend we had a break in the schedule, resulting in a rare Sunday at home.  I cherish these days!  I know my fellow parents can probably relate 🙂

» Here Comes the Sun by Nicole Dennis-Benn

*4.5 Stars

 This book was so good!  There is so much going on in this one: racial issues, socio-economic issues, LGBT issues etc. etc.  This was also my first time reading a book where there was a f/f romantic relationship with a main character!  This book would make an excellent book club selection.  Take note all my book club participants 🙂

» The Book Club Murders by Leslie Nagel

I read this one for my book club’s November/December book selection.  Cozy mystery is probably one of my least favorite genres, so I am not going to give this one a star rating.  This one just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Currently reading:

» Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

I didn’t make much headway in this one this week unfortunately.  I have really enjoyed what I have read so far.  I really like how Picoult chose to include the perspective of Turk, a man who follows the ideology of white supremacy.  It isn’t easy to read his hateful thoughts and beliefs, and I know it is only going to get worse, but I think it is an important aspect to show.  Why? because we can learn from it.  What drives these people?  The answer is hate and fear.

» The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood

I am really enjoying this book!  The old woman in this book isn’t really a curmudgeon, but this one is giving me a similar feel to A Man Called Ove, which I really liked.

This one is STILL up next.  I hope to finish Small Great Things early in the week, so I can hopefully knock this one out this week too.
