TTTBookstoBigScreen.jpg

Hello fellow bookworms!  It’s Tuesday and that means it is time for another Top Ten Tuesday post!

What is TTT? TTT is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.  Check out their blog for more info and to see upcoming themes.

toptentuesday

This week’s theme is…

November 15: Movie Freebie — top ten all time favorite movies, top ten foreign films, top ten rom-coms, top ten 90’s movies, top ten action flicks, top ten tear-jerkers, top ten movies your favorite actor/actress is in, top ten movies with PoC leads, etc. etc.)

I decided to share a few of my favorite movie adaptations…

» Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ⇒ Pride & Prejudice (2005)

I don’t think I am alone in my love for this movie.  It was just so beautifully done.  If you take one movie recommendation from this list, make it this one.

» Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë ⇒ Wuthering Heights (TV Mini-Series 2009)

I know this is technically not a movie, but rather a TV mini-series, but I just loved this adaptation of Wuthering Heights.  If you are a WH fan and have never seen this version, I encourage you to watch it.  I don’t think you will be disappointed.

» Little Women by Louisa May Alcott ⇒ Little Women (1949)

This movie holds a special place in my heart.  I remember spending a week on my Grandparent’s farm every summer.  My Grandmother and I would watch this movie every time I came to stay.  I read the book for the first time this year and couldn’t believe the feelings of nostalgia that came flooding back.

» The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory ⇒ The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)

I actually watched the movie BEFORE reading the book with this one.  I loved the movie so much, I just had to read the book.  This was actually my first Philippa Gregory book, and I am so glad this movie introduced me to her books.

»The Hobbit The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King by J.R.R Tolkien

The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

⇒ The Two Towers (2002)

⇒ The Return of the King (2003)

⇒ The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

⇒ The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

⇒ The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

I love these movies.  Aesthetically, these movies are absolutely breathtaking.  I have to admit, I’ve only read The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.  One of these days I will get around to reading the other two books.

» The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis ⇒ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005)

I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for the first time this past month.  I always loved the movie, but until reading the book I didn’t appreciate how well done this adaptation really is.

» The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

⇒ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

⇒ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

⇒ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

⇒ Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

⇒ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Pt1 (2010)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt2 (2011)

Duh… just duh.

» Me Before You by Jojo Moyes ⇒ Me Before You (2016)

Even though I think the movie left out some key elements from the book, I thought this adaptation was well done.  I thought it was cast extremely well.  It evoked the same strong emotions that the book did.

Which movie adaptations are your favorites?

  1. Ahhh, what a great list. Lots and lots of classics and their adaptations. I was so made up seeing The Hobbit, Harry Potter and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – all of the films on here are good but I love those three.

  2. The only one I’ve watched on this list is Harry Potter. I’ve read some of these books, just haven’t gotten around to the movies yet, I guess. Lol. Great book choices!

      1. I liked the second one for the most part- for most of it I actually ordered it to the first one- but the was a massive letdown. And the third one wasn’t really worth watching- but that might be the fault of the books getting weird rather than the filmmakers

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the older version of Little Women – just the newer one (which isn’t really very new anymore, is it?).
My favourite version of P&P is the BBC adaptation. And to this list I might add the Emma Thompson version of Sense & Sensibility and the Jane Eyre TV mini-series from 2006. 🙂

      1. You obviously do. Colin Firth is a wonderful Darcy. In fact, when he played the Darcy figure in Bridget Jones, I was super happy because of the Demi-reprisal. Perfect.
I’ll pick up Little Women for our holiday movie marathon this year, then! It’s always good to introduce something new.

  4. I have so many fond memories of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe movie! The book is one of my favorite childhood stories, so I saw the movie 3 times when it premiered. It’s unfortunate that the subsequent films weren’t as popular, but I’m looking forward to more. I believe The Magician’s Nephew will also be turned into a film. I loved that one too!
The Kiera Knightly version of P&P is also one of my favorite movies ever.

    Fantastic list!

    1. Last month when I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was my first time experiencing a C.S. Lewis book! Have you read his other books?! Do you have a favorite? I would love to read more, so I would love a suggestion for my next book 😊

  5. Ahh great choices!! P&P is just beyond beautiful! I’m starting to feel real guilty about not having read or watched Wuthering Heights because it seems to keep popping up in my world lately. Also, Little Woman is a book I clearly need to get on and read!

Narnia forever ❤️ It’s just got to be one of the best movie adaptations, doesn’t it? I will be forever amazed at how they eked out three really good movies from the hobbit!! Such a tiny book. I have really mixed feelings about Me Before You. I thought it was a beautiful movie but it paled severely in comparison to the book for me and left too many things out.

    1. Withering heights is definitely a gothic style novel… it is definitely not a happy book lol Lots of tragedy. I think it is a beautiful (in the sense of the writing and the emotions) story, but many people don’t agree with me.

I do think the book of Me Before You is much better than the movie too. I felt like the movie didn’t go into enough details about WHY Will made the decision he made. I can see where Moyes got some of the backlash. However I did love the cast and just fell in love with the story all over again. I was a blubbering mess.

      1. Haha well I’ll read it at some point (and I’m pretty sure I’m always going to spell it wrong 😂)

YES! Will’s character was definitely lacking in the movie. But the casting was puurrfect 👌🏻👌🏻

  6. The Hobbit + The Lord of the Rings may possibly the best book to movie adaptations I have seen to this day ❤ ❤ I was still a child when the LOTR movies were released, so I came to read the books only some years later – and still I have only read the silmarillion (? I always write it wrong, oops!), The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring! I need to move my ass and read the other two, haha! I actually have been dying to watch The Other Boley Girl since the movie got out and never did, shame on me! I didn't know it was based on a book, tho! I may end up reading the book first, after all, haha!

      1. I’m sorry, but I did want to catch up last night, haha! I didn’t want to pass off the crazy stalker impression, but oh well – kind of late for that! HAHAHAHA! ❤ Besides, it was no hardship at all, I love your blog, Amanda! ❤
