Weekly Wrap-Up: 9/12 – 9/18/16

Happy Sunday evening bookworms!

I missed posting my weekly wrap-up last weekend as I was in a wedding, and was busy the entire weekend with wedding festivities.  This week was a productive week on the blog!  Here is what I had going on…

*Weekly Wrap-Up is a weekly post where I feature what posts were published on the blog for the past week, any bookish/blog happenings, what I recently finished reading, what I am currently reading, and what I will be reading next.

Life Update:

I completed the Air Force 10k yesterday, which is part of the U.S. Air Force Marathon that takes place every year at the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.

I finished in 1:06:47, which is a far cry from my PR of 59:49.  I did very minimal training (by minimal I mean hardly any at all), so I’m happy with my time.  I was in the top 24% of over 2,300 runners in the 10k event.  There were over 15,000 runners from all 50 states that took part in either the 5k, 10k, half, or full marathon.

This book.  I don’t even know how to explain it.  If I could take this book and split it into two books, they would both be home runs.  Review to come soon.

I actually really enjoyed this book.  This is a slower paced book that will give you the feel goods.  I actually cried at the end… I adored Ove.

FYI “Ove” is pronounced “OO (as in too)-Vuh.  It’s Swedish.

I am about 70% through this book.  So far it is a cutesy YA read.  I adore the dialogue between the characters, but if I read the word “cliché” one more time in this book I’m going to scream.  I kid you not, the word is on almost EVERY page.

I am loving my first Neil Gaiman book!  I am about 65% through.  I almost wish I would have saved this for October for some Halloween reading, but close enough.

  4. Amanda you’re seriously my #GOALS! lol amazing! Kids, a marathon, and a productive blog! I need to read your review of Don’t You Cry in a bit, I’ve heard mixed reviews. The first time I heard the correct way to pronounce Ove I shook my head like no that’s not going to stick lol. Your 1st Gaiman! Ahhh! I bet it will turn you over to the dark side for life, I read Stardust & now I’m just carefully trying to decide btwn The Graveyard Book & Neverwhere. I tried American Gods but failed miserably & I had such high hopes that I would LOVE it! turns out I’m not the only one, it’s a tough one that either you love or hate. I’ll wait for the tv series for that one. Great Week 🙂

    1. Oh my gosh this is the nicest comment EVER! I promise my life isn’t as put together as it seems! I am a stay-at-home Mother, so I don’t have all the hardships that working Moms do. I think you working Moms are the heroes! You have to do everything that I do, but you are also bringing home the bacon.

      A Man Called Ove was super cute. Defiantly a slower paced feel good type of book.

      I’m really enjoying The Graveyard Book! I feel like I’m watching a Tim Burton or Henry Selick film!

      1. I can only imagine how tough being a stay at home mom is though, you gals make it look easy but I know it’s nowhere near it! Adding a kid to the mix made it even more challenging. I play with the idea of going part-time just to have more of a presence but all in due time 😉 & yes! I love the dark feel his writing gives off 🙌🏼 I can def see Tim Burton bringing one of his novels to life 🙃🙂🙃

  5. I’m so glad you’re finally getting to read Gaiman! I really love his writing. For me, I didn’t get into him until I listened to an audiobook he narrated (The House at the End of the Lane)– at that point I feel like his writing style finally clicked for me.
    I can’t wait to read your reviews.

      1. Yayyy! I’m so glad. Plus, now you can really understand what his words mean to him as well. I love listening to authors read their own works.
