Book Event: Stephen King’s End of Watch Book Tour

end-of-watch-book-tour-1

If you follow my blog posts, you may remember that I had scored tickets to go see Stephen King!  You can read all about the stress and excitement of scoring these hard to get tickets here → Bookish Dreams Do Come True! Stephen King Book Tour.

This tour was to  promote his most recent book release, End of Watch, which is the 3rd and final installment in the Bill Hodges Trilogy.  You can read my reviews of Mr. Mercedes here → Book Review: Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King and Finders Keepers here → Book Review: Finders Keepers by Stephen King.

Last Thursday, June 9th,  finally came and went…I am still in disbelief that I got the chance to see Stephen King speak.  I mean who HASN’T read one of his 50+ novels or at the very least, heard of him?  This event was HUGE for our city… I think the last time Stephen King came to Dayton, Ohio was in the 1980’s?  Don’t quote me but I thought it was ’88?  Can I get a fact check on that one?  If that is indeed correct, it would have been almost 30 years since he was last here!

I had no idea what an entertainer Stephen King was!  Obviously he can entertain us with the written word, but he was so charismatic on stage.  I must admit, I was shocked at how funny he is!  He had the entire audience laughing for most of his hour long talk.

Fans of the Bill Hodges Trilogy will be happy to hear that King mentioned that there will a spin off of this series starring the fan favorite Holly.  Furthermore, it will actually be set in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio!  Obviously this means he will HAVE to come back to Dayton to promote that book… right?

As part of the event, we each received a hard copy of the book.  Stephen King signed 400 copies to be given out at random, but with over 1,200 attendees, I wasn’t holding my breath.  Unfortunately, I did NOT receive a signed book.  I must admit I was a little salty at first, because I will probably never again get the opportunity to obtain a signed book from Stephen King, but such is life.

I went with my friend Nicole and we went all out with matching bookish shirts.  People were totally jealous of our awesomness.  Nicole and I are actually new friends, her husband is my son’s football coach.  This was our first time going to an event together.  I must say, it’s great to have a friend to go to book events with!

This was a night I will never forget!  King is probably one of the most interesting people I have ever heard speak.  If you ever get the chance to attend one of his events, I strongly encourage you to attend by any means possible.  You won’t be disappointed!

  1. i am SO jealous of this event!!! Sounds like a great time – I read fewer of his novels in the last 20 years but was a big fan in my late teens and early adult years. My book club all picked different King novels in the month of October had a wonderful time discussing them!

    1. It was amazing! I believe this series (Bill Hodges Trilogy) was his first venture into crime fiction! I love that he is branching out and trying new things. I can’t wait to read more and more of his books. I will definitely be a fan for life!

  2. Stephen King is my favorite author. Ever. You’re so lucky. I would’ve loved to have seen him speak. His thoughts on writing have helped me so much through my own writing journey. That must’ve been such an incredible day for you. His prose in Salem’s Lot is absolutely brilliant. I’m such a huge fan of his work.

  3. Yay! I’m so excited for you – I bet you transformed in the MOST excitable child! I feel like I must confess I’ve yet to pick up one of his books *dodges tomatoes* but I have heard of him (of course)! Perhaps I should get on to remedying that . . .

    1. No need to dodge tomatoes! I’ve only read a few of his books. I can’t wait to read more! I haven’t read any of his horror books… I’m going to try some during Halloween time. I was indeed like a child… Almost embarrassingly like a child lol My friend was just as childlike, so at least I wasn’t alone lol
