The Sunshine Blogger Award

Image [35507].jpg
First off I want to give a HUGE thanks to Kelly @Kelly’s Rambles for nominating me for The Sunshine Blogger Award!  Head over and check out her blog which features her interests in books, film, and television!  I am so excited to be nominated to participate in this award.  I love getting to know my fellow bloggers and bonding over shared interests.

Rules for this award:

Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.

Nominate some wonderful bloggers and write 11 questions for them to answer.

Kelly’s Questions:

1.) If you had to pick three books to read for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Only three?!?! For the rest of my life?!  THREE???  This is cruel and unusual punishment… I guess it could be worse, it could only be one… If I must choose, I would pick my top 3 favorite books.

2.) Best movie you have seen in the cinema recently?

The sad thing is that I honestly cannot remember the last movie I saw in the theatre that wasn’t a kids movie… Gone are the days of going to see movies for myself.  Such is the life of a Mom.  The best movie I’ve seen in the theatre recently is Zootopia.  Please don’t judge me 🙂  It was actually super cute and funny to boot!  I’m a bit of a Disney freak, so when my son asked me to take him to see this, I jumped at the opportunity.

3.) Favorite television series?
Hands down my favorite TV series of all times is Gilmore Girls.  Mother-daughter relationship goals!  When the complete series of GG was made available on Netflix, I am not ashamed to admit that I may have binge watched  the series.  Once my daughter reaches her teen years, I am going to force her to watch the series with me… Is that wrong?  If you hadn’t heard, Netflix is doing a revival of GG.  You can read more about the GG revival here.  I seriously cannot wait.

4.) If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
There are so many beautiful places in the world that I would love to one day see.  I have only been outside of the United States twice in my life.  Once to Spain while in high school, and once to the Dominican Republic on my honeymoon.  These trips gave me the love for travel and the desire to see more of the world.  It is so hard to only choose one, but if I have to, I guess I would say Ireland.  There is just something about Ireland that seems so magical.

5.) Paperbacks, hard covers or ebooks?

Call me old school, but there is nothing like holding a book in your hands. I am a book hoarder and aspire to one day have my own personal library.  This is a toss-up because paperbacks are more comfortable while reading, but hardback books look better on my book shelf… I’m going to go with paperbacks, because of the comfort factor.  I’m not a fan of ebooks, but I also am not naive enough to think that at some point, paper form books COULD be a thing of the past.  Gasp!  I will continue my book hoardish ways until they pry the paper-form books from my cold dead hands!

6.) What fictional character has had the biggest impact on you?

Good question!  I am going to go with my favorite childhood fictional character that introduced me to my love of reading, Ella from Ella Enchanted .  This book is where it all began.  It will always hold a special place in my heart.  I cannot wait to introduce my daughter to this book when she is older.  I hope it will have as big of an impact on her that it did on me.  I would also like to state for the record that I was not impressed with the movie adaptation of this book, so please don’t judge this book based on the movie.

7.) What is your most anticipated film release of 2016?
Embarrassingly enough, I am actually really looking forward to The Jungle Book.  I’ve always been a bit of a Disney junkie, so I was excited to see they were re-making this.

8.) What book has been on your TBR the longest? Why is that?
There are so many great books that I haven’t had the opportunity to read yet.  It’s overwhelming!  Honestly, it would take a lifetime to read all the books on my TBR list.  It is out of control.  I just keep burying myself in books.  Just the number of TBR books I personally own would take me a year or two to read… I have a problem.   I guess I am going to go with The Kite Runner.  I have no idea why I haven’t gotten around to this book yet.  I know I will love it.  What’s stopping me?

9.) Are there any books you are fearful of reading?
I am intimidated by most of the classics that I have yet to read.  Classics intimidate me because I worry they will be over my head, or that I won’t pick up the message that the author is trying to convey.  Since the books that are considered classics are held in such high regard, I worry that I won’t enjoy them as much as society says I should… Does that make any kind of sense?
10.) What is the most recent book you purchased?
My birthday was this week on the 6th and I had emailed my husband my book wish list from Amazon as a subtle hint 🙂  I have no idea which books off my wish list he purchased, but the order is due to arrive tomorrow!  I can hardly contain my excitement.  Before this, the last book I purchased was a thrift store find of The Kitchen House, which I can’t wait to read!

11.) Favorite comfort food?

Oatmeal for the win!  I have an unhealthy obsession with oatmeal.  I eat it EVERY morning for breakfast.  Actually I could eat it for every meal of the day if my body would allow the amount of carbs.

My Questions:

  1. How many books do you own?
  2. What is your reading goal this year?  Are you on track to reach it?
  3. What is your favorite book quote?
  4. If you could sit down and have a chat with any author (living or dead), who would it be?
  5. What is the last book that moved you to tears?
  6. Favorite movie adaptation of a book?
  7. Have you ever attended a meet the author event/book signing?  If so, which author?
  8. What is the last book that made you laugh out loud?
  9. If you could erase one book from existence, which book would it be?
  10. If you could recommend one book to a non-reader, which book would it be?
  11. Which bookish blogger do you have the most in common with reading wise?

  1. Lovely questions and answers. I love your choice of three books at the start – I do adore Jane Eyre. Have you read Jane Steele by Faye Lindsay? It’s not a retelling but a story that, for some parts, the protagonist’s life runs on a parallel to Janes. It’s really very good.

  2. Thanks or the nomination! There’s no shame in loving a good Disney movie 🙂 I seem to only watch kids movies these days too… I don’t even have the excuse of being a parent yet though haha! I really wish Gilmore Girls would come onto UK Netflix, I’ve only ever seen a couple of episodes and really want to watch it all the way through.

  3. I love your answers, they are so detailed and interesting. I also have had The Kite Runner on my to-read list for a super long time and keep putting it off for unknown reasons. As for the Disney movies, I am a huge Disney fan, I even run a Disney blog on tumblr! Never be ashamed of loving Disney. I also cannot wait for The Jungle Book, it looks SO good!!

  4. Hey would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a difficult time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

    1. I’m so sorry I am just now responding. For some reason your comment went to spam and I didn’t see it. I feel like such a jerk 😦 I use WordPress! I can’t really speak on BlogEngine or the others, but I am happy with WP for now. I just use one of the standard free layouts. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    1. Thank you so much for reading! I’m so sorry I am just now responding. For some reason your comment went to spam and I didn’t see it. Which is so ironic lol I don’t really receive too much legit spam, but rather I have legit comments that are sent to spam instead. I don’t have any special plug ins or anything like that. Which platform do you use?
