Top Ten Tuesday! Ten Of The Best Books I’ve Read Recently

IMG_4306 [4316075]It’s Tuesday again my friends, and you all know what that means… Top Ten Tuesday!  TTT was created by The Broke and the Bookish.  Check out their blog to learn more about TTT and to see the upcoming topics.  The theme for this week is the top ten best books I’ve recently read.  I am going to work my way backwards, and share with you the last ten books I’ve read where I rated the book with 4+ stars.  This weeks top ten are…

This was my second Stephen King novel, and it did not disappoint.  Stephen King is coming to my hometown this June for his most recent book tour to promote the 3rd book in the Bill Hodges Trilogy.  Mr. Mercedes is the 1st installment. I am hoping to be able to score tickets and get the chance to see Stephen King himself!  I listened to this via audiobook, which was read by Will Patton.  The combination of Stephen King’s brilliant writing and Will Patton’s interesting voice was a homerun for me.  Parts of this book were deeply disturbing, but I expected nothing less from the mind of Stephen King.  Review to come later this week for Thriller Thursday 🙂

I do not give out 5 star ratings lightly, but I did not hesitate to give Dollbaby 5 stars!  I loved everything about this book.  If you enjoyed novels like The Help by Kathryn Stockett and  The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, you need to give Dollbaby a try!

I really enjoy books that create a back story for famous works of art.  If you enjoyed Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier, try The Painted Girls.

I was lucky enough to attend a meet the author event for The Orphan Train last month.   At the event, Christina Baker Kline spoke about the history of orphan trains and how she came to be interested in them.  She is a captivating speaker AND writer.

This book had been on my TBR list since I was 8 years old.  I remember watching one of the movie adaptations with my grandmother as a young girl.  Being the tomboy I was, of course I wanted to be just like Jo!  I did not write a book review for this book because this is a classic piece of literature for a reason… I will say that I am glad I waited to read it as an adult because I appreciated it more than I would have as a younger reader.

This was a impulse download while on a long car trip.  I was intrigued by the title of the book, and the rest is history.

My Review: The Girl Who Wrote in Silk by Kelli Estes

You may or may not know that Sara Donati’s  Into The Wilderness series is one of my all time favorite series.  The Gilded Hour is a spin off of that series.  I had waited many years for this book, and I was not disappointed.  I felt as if I was home with old friends.  As per usual, Sara Donati (Rosina Lippi) spins a captivating tale with engaging characters.  I hope she doesn’t make me wait long for the next installment.

This was a mystery novel done right!  It is a Sherlock Holmes adaptation where the aging Holmes takes an apprentice in the form of a teen girl.  I thought it was very well done.

This read more like a beautiful piece of fiction rather than a memoir.  I had never read a memoir before, and I am so glad I picked this up!

Just another example of a great classic that I am glad to have read as an adult vs. being forced to read in high school.  I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed this novel, despite all the geological descriptions and facts.  I was interested until the very end.

      1. Yes! So many. The Shining is my favorite. And he did a sequel to that one recently called Doctor Sleep. Bag of Bones is GREAT. A recent one I really liked is called Revival. I’ve heard the Dark Tower series is great, but I haven’t started it yet. I have a goal to read all of his books, but there are so many. Good problem to have! Enjoy the reads and let me know what you think of them 🙂

  1. All these books look beautiful – especially The Girl Who Wrote in Silk! I love reading your lists because there are always so many books that I hadn’t heard of before on them!
